Explore Challis, Idaho

Digital illustration of the state of Idaho shaped like aged parchment, showing the Salmon River and a location marker for Challis. The map blends into a detailed landscape painting of mountains and a flowing river with a rustic, vintage mood.

Tucked into the heart of central Idaho, Challis is a place where the mountains stretch for miles, rivers wind through the valleys, and there's plenty of room to get outside and explore.

Hike mountain trails, soak in natural hot springs, ride ATVs along miles of backcountry trails, or spend a quiet afternoon fishing along the Salmon River. Whether you're looking for a full day of adventure or a scenic drive with a few stops along the way, there's plenty to discover around here.

And when the day's adventures are done, you can come home to Mill Creek Farmstead. Kick back beside the creek, say hello to the goats, watch the evening settle over the mountains, and enjoy a little peace and quiet before doing it all again tomorrow.

Gold Bug Hot Springs

About a 45-minute drive from Mill Creek Farmstead, heading toward Salmon, Goldbug Hot Springs is well worth the trip for those who enjoy a good hike. The trail climbs through rugged Idaho scenery before reaching a series of natural soaking pools tucked into the mountainside, with beautiful views of the surrounding valley.

Be ready to work for it! The hike is approximately 4 miles round trip, with around 1,350 feet of elevation gain and some steep sections along the way. Bring plenty of water, sturdy hiking shoes, and a swimsuit for a relaxing soak at the top.

Goldbug is a natural, undeveloped hot springs area, so there are no facilities at the pools themselves. Please respect the private property crossed by the trail and pack out everything you bring in.
